For Dunki, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan reunites with hitmaking filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, after a four-year absence from the big screen.
The film is a collaboration of Mukesh Ambani’s Jio Studios, Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment, and Rajkumar Hirani Films, which is owned by the billionaire Mukesh Ambani.
Taapsee Pannu is also a part of the cast (Pink, Dobaaraa and Looop Lapeta).
Dunki’s announcement was made via a teaser video that offers no narrative details but promises comedy, emotion, and romance.
The release date has been set for December 22, 2023.
Khan is regarded as one of Bollywood’s greatest romantic actors. However, his latest films have flopped at the box office, with Zero being his most recent release in 2018.
Khan will also act with Deepika Padukone (Gehraiyaan) and John Abraham in Yash Raj Films’ Pathaan, helmed by Siddharth Anand (War) (Attack).
The spy thriller is now in production and is set to hit theaters on January 25, 2023, coinciding with India’s Republic Day holiday, making 2023 the year of Khan tentpoles.
Hirani’s major films include the Munna Bhai franchise, which starred Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi, Sanju, which starred Ranbir Kapoor, and PK and 3 Idiots, which both starred Aamir Khan.
Khan remarked in a tweet promoting Dunki that Hirani has proven to be his Santa Claus, referring to the film’s Christmas release date.
He also says he’ll start living on the set of the movie and will be on time for work. Khan expressed his gratitude by saying, “I’m honored and pleased to finally work with you.” — According to Reuters
